Dalgona coffee is an ice coffee where the coffee flavour comes from a whipped mousse made from only three ingredients.

What is Dalgona Coffee

Apparently it started as a viral trend in South Korea during the social distancing due to Covid-19. Then Tik-Tok quickly took the trend up and it just escalated from there. Now it’s everywhere on social media and it’s only a matter of time before you can order Dalgona coffee everywhere at your local coffee pushers.

Dalgona is actually a type of Korean honeycomb toffee that resembles the taste of the creamy coffee beverage

It’s only possible to make the creamy mousse by using instant coffee – this is because of the drying process of the coffee granules.

How to make Dalgona Coffee

It’s really super easy and even easier if you’ve got an electric mixer. However, a little hard work and endurance attached to a strong arm will get you there fairly quickly as well. Beware of pain in tri-and biceps. Haha

Simply mix instant coffee, hot water and brown sugar/coconut sugar and whisk until you have a nice creamy and dense foam. That’s it!
Then you pour it over a glass with ice and your milk of choice and done 🙂

Salted Caramel

I served my Dalgona Coffee with my Salted Caramel Sauce. Find the recipe here

Top Tips for making Dalgona Coffee

1.

Use instant Espresso powder and not normal coffee granulates. The intense flavour is just SO much better.

2.

Use freshly boiled water as in straight out of the kettle/Quooker. I don’t really know why, but it does makes it creamier and easier to whisk into that desirable foam.

3.

Pour a little coffee mouse at the bottom of your glass. It just blends better that way.

4.

There’s no need to add equal amounts of all the ingredients. Just a little sugar if any is enough. And you can use Coconut sugar as well for a healthier option.

Dalgona Coffee

Dalgona Coffee is an ice coffee where the coffee flavour comes from a whipped mousse made from only three ingredients.

2 tbsp instant espresso coffee

2 tbsp freshly boiled water

1 tsp brown sugar/ coconut sugar

Milk of your choice

Ice cubes

Add the instant coffee and sugar in a mixing bowl and add the hot water.

Whisk until you have a nice, dense creamy foam.
